Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. (MCR) was contracted to support the dismantling of the SK415 tower crane from the Encore Tower project, located in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Alberta. This project posed several unique challenges, primarily due to a highly restricted timeline and the dense urban congestion of the Capital City. Given the location’s dense traffic and limited space, MCR had to develop a precise, efficient plan to complete all operations without affecting the city’s normal weekday activity.

The project was restricted to a single weekend road closure, beginning at 8:00 PM on Friday evening and concluding by 5:00 AM Monday morning. Within this limited window, MCR was responsible for mobilizing all equipment, assembling the lift crane, executing the full dismantle of the SK415 tower crane, and completing demobilization, all without delays or overrun.

To meet these demands, MCR deployed its LR1300 SX crawler crane, selected specifically for its superior reach and lifting capacity. The crane was configured with a 194 foot main boom and a 292 foot luffing jib, achieving a tip height of 490 feet and a lift capacity of 45,100 pounds, ensuring it was well suited for the complex dismantling requirements within the downtown core.

The execution began Friday evening at 8:00 PM, with 18 transport loads arriving on site to support the crane assembly. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, MCR’s team completed the full dismantling and load out of the SK415 tower crane. On Sunday night, the crawler crane was demobilized, allowing the road to be reopened by 5:00 AM Monday morning, precisely as scheduled for the morning commute.

The project was completed safely, on time, and without disruption to city traffic. This successful outcome demonstrated MCR’s expertise in delivering technically complex lifting operations under tight deadlines and in challenging urban environments.
