Overview
Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. (MCR) was engaged to support the replacement of aging bridge girders on a bridge located on Highway 43 in Alberta. The Two Creeks Bridge Girder Replacement project aimed to restore the structural performance of a critical link along this vital transportation corridor. The scope of work involved the removal and replacement of existing bridge girders, a task requiring a high degree of precision, operational control, and safety, particularly given the operational constraints of the site.
To facilitate the girder replacement, two Liebherr LTM 1400 all-terrain cranes were mobilized to the remote location, situated approximately 230 km northwest of Edmonton. Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. provided comprehensive lifting support, including crane supply, engineered rigging solutions, and experienced crews to execute the work safely, efficiently and in alignment with all technical and logistical requirements.
Replacing the bridge girders while maintaining uninterrupted two way traffic flow on the northbound side of the highway was a core project requirement. Given the location of the bridge, a full highway closure was not an option. Minimizing the impact on traffic called for a precisely timed and highly coordinated lifting approach, executed within the narrow timeline. Any lengthy disruption would have had serious consequences for regional mobility, making detailed planning and flawless execution essential.
A meticulously sequenced lift plan was developed to meet these demands. Rigging for each girder was prepared in advance, allowing hoisting operations to proceed smoothly during carefully scheduled periods outside of peak traffic hours. Close coordination with traffic management authorities ensured that safety protocols were upheld without affecting the flow of highway traffic.
The project was completed on schedule and within budget, with all girders safely removed and replaced without any significant interruption to highway traffic. This outcome highlights the effectiveness of detailed planning, expert execution, and the strategic use of heavy lift equipment in delivering complex solutions to challenging problems.
