LRT Bridge – Finishing Work Support

Business Unit

Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd.

Overview

Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. (MCR) was engaged to support finishing operations on the Marigold Light Rail Transit (LRT) bridge, specifically to assist crews in accessing and completing detailed work on the upper sections of the bridge piers. These final construction stages were critical to the completion of the structure and required a reliable, safe method for personnel to reach elevated work areas that were otherwise inaccessible using conventional means.

The project scope involved mobilizing a Liebherr LTM 1400 all-terrain crane equipped with a luffing jib and man basket, the crew was required to mobilize over a weekend to avoid restricting access to and from the site using the only available access road. Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. (MCR) was tasked with providing the crane, certified operator, necessary rigging and the man basket to support safe and effective access to the uppermost sections of the bridge piers for the finishing crews. In addition to supplying the equipment, MCR also provided on site support to ensure the successful execution of man basket operations.

A primary challenge encountered during the project was the lack of safe access for workers to the tops of the piers, which stood at considerable height. Additionally, the only feasible location for crane setup was along the site’s main access road, which ran near the riverbank and required a temporary closure during crane assembly and operation. This introduced several logistical and safety considerations, including the need to ensure ground stability under the weight of the crane and the potential disruption to site operations due to the restricted access.

To address these challenges, MCR implemented a carefully planned and executed solution. The crane was rigged in over a weekend to avoid interfering with regular site activity. Prior to setup, an engineered crane pad was designed and constructed to accommodate the weight and configuration of the LTM 1400. Daily inspections of the riverbank’s condition were carried out throughout the operation to ensure continued ground stability and safe working conditions.

With the crane securely positioned, personnel were safely lifted in the man basket to perform the necessary finishing work on the piers. This approach not only enabled efficient progress but also ensured that all tasks were completed in accordance with applicable safety standards and project timelines.

The work was completed safely, on schedule, and without incident. By providing the right equipment, technical expertise, and proactive planning, Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. (MCR) contributed to the successful delivery of a critical phase of the Marigold LRT bridge project, enabling the client to maintain momentum toward overall project completion.
