Overview

Myshak Crane & Rigging Ltd. (MCR) was contracted to support the dismantling of a tower crane at the Telus Toll Building in downtown Edmonton. The scope of work involved supplying a large capacity mobile crane, an experienced crew, and full rigging support to safely and efficiently dismantle the tower crane within a limited operating window. The dismantle had to be completed over a single weekend, with all equipment removed and the road reopened by early Monday morning.

MCR brought in a Liebherr LTM 1400 All Terrain crane equipped with a luffing jib, selected for its ability to operate effectively within tight environments and its capacity to handle the dismantle lifts required for the tower crane. MCR also provided a skilled crew, including crane operators, riggers, and supervision, to execute the dismantling procedure in accordance with the lift plans and strict safety standards.

The project site was located in Edmonton’s highly congested downtown core with minimal room for equipment setup and maneuvering. A full road closure was required to accommodate the crane assembly, dismantling operations, and demobilization. The entire scope had to be completed between Friday evening and Monday morning, with the road fully reopened by 4:00 a.m. to avoid disruption to Monday morning commuter traffic. Further complicating the schedule were variable wind conditions, which required constant monitoring and had the potential to delay or modify lifting operations to maintain safe working conditions.

To meet the strict timeline, MCR coordinated closely with the client and municipal authorities to obtain the necessary road closure and schedule all phases of the operation with precision. The crane was rigged up on Friday evening to ensure it was ready for lifting operations by 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The tower crane dismantle proceeded throughout the weekend, with crews working extended shifts to meet the deadline. Weather and wind conditions were continuously monitored, and lifting activities were adapted in real time to ensure safe execution. Once dismantling was completed, MCR immediately began rigging down the LTM 1400, completing demobilization late Sunday evening in preparation for the road to be reopened as scheduled.

The project was executed safely, on time, and without delays. All dismantling activities were completed within the designated weekend window, and the road was reopened by 4:00 a.m. Monday morning, as required. There were no incidents or injuries, and the operation was completed to the full satisfaction of the client. The success of this project highlights MCR’s ability to deliver precision lifting services under demanding conditions and aggressive timelines while maintaining a consistent commitment to safety and execution excellence.
